Precious Moments:- Up-cycling - a new buzzword?

Eniko, a fellow blogger and Let's Scrap member has written an awesome article on her blog about up-cycling scrapbook packaging.  Up-cycling is the new buzz word around.  Suddenly it is very fashionable to collect vintage and shabby chic, grandma's things are now  much sought after and no longer consigned to the trash.  The sad thing is we were the ones to chuck everything out and now pay a pretty penny to buy vintage again.  So the wheel turns and the ugly, me, me, me consumerism era seems to have passed.  Talking about cycles, my term at Let's Scrap comes to an end on 31 March.  I am so sad.  Have loved every minute of it.  Here is my take on this weeks sketch 3-21-12. The paper is Bo-Bunny, Graphic 45 and very old Fab Scraps, the punch is Martha Stewart and the flower die is Tim Holtz.
I cut up an old paper back, and layers of pattern paper to make the flower. For the centre I added some 'bought' flowers. The title is a rub-on from my stash.
Today at Calico's I did this paper piecing and layering class
I also taught some wet and dry embossing techniques and even taught my simple rose to some ladies who had not done my paper rose class.
(sorry this is not the best of photos)

This LO has come at a  point in my life with lots of turmoil,a move and my husband working away from home.  I am moving from a beautiful large house with a view of the sea to a perfectly small apartment with a view over a dam.  The house I live in currently was the answer to a challenge I gave God about us moving to Ballito from Zimbabwe, in that, I prayed and said if I have to move I want a 4 bed-roomed house with a view of the sea.  I got what I asked for... a true testament of asking specifically for what you want.. but I am now being challenged to down-size as it is no longer practical to live in a large house. I have been living in a furnished house, so you can see the problem, move plus apartment equals buying stuff. So it is secondhand stores and Gumtree for me looking for stuff to up-cycle and furnish my new apartment.  I have been blessed enough to have lived in large houses all my life so apartment living is going to be very different experience.  I made sure this doll's house has a loft so have space for my scrapbooking and of course my cats also had to come with me (no easy task finding accommodation in a town that won't allow pets to share your space in the majority of estates and complexes).
until we chat again, have a scrapilicious week

Wilna, I'm so delighted that you stopped by Eniko's Playhouse and that you like my work! And thanks for linking me to your blog. I've had to downsize a couple times in my life, and may have another one of those challenges coming up in the future... not an easy adjustment. I hope you stay in touch & let me know how it goes. The paper-piecing layout is stunning! -Just took my breath away! I also love your card & the handmade flower! I wish you could stay on as a Design Team member on Let's Scrap...you did such a great job! Giant hugs!

Eniko, thank you for your kind words, I have done 2 terms back to back during some very difficult times. Being DT kept me grounded and aware of my responsibilities. I have made some awesome friends (ie you) who via this medium can always be in touch. I am sure the new DT's will always inspire you and I am not giving up on designing, so continue to pop in and check me out. take care
