Digistamps4Joy - Challenge #148

wonderful
ˈwʌndəfʊl,ˈwʌndəf(ə)l/
adjective
  1. inspiring delight, pleasure, or admiration; extremely good; marvellous.
    "they all think she's wonderful"

Hey there,
my word for the year is wonderful and I am so, living up to my choice of word.
Maybe it is a state of mind but usually round this time of the year I fall into one of my dark pits, caused by Mothers's Day and the passing of my wonderful mum a week later.
But this year there is something different in my spirit.  I don't have that deep sense of grief but a sort of peace.  I had been holding onto the grief and have finally let it go.
This card is dedicated to my mum who has her wings. I know she watches over me and I hope I am the woman she would have wanted me to be..

The Digi I used is called heart wings and the sentiment I used is called Mom wings. Quite pertinant, I think!

The image was cut on my Silhouette and I re-assembled it with some layers. I tucked yellow roses and arum lilies in as these were her favourite flowers.  This is how the page started .......

....... but then it sort of morphed into this and will be part of a larger canvas, which I will share on another occasion.

For those who still have mums, treasure them.
For those who are mums, nuture the memories

chat later

Challenge #145 I Love You | DigiStamps4Joy

Isn't February wonderful, it's the month of love and
also the month I celebrate my wedding anniversary.
For  Challenge #145 I used a new release in the
DS4J store by Jen Leefleng.

I used my Silhouette to trace the image.  I used Aquarelle pencils
to colour the image (still learning - haven't got it right yet!),
cut out the frame and layered it with coloured cardstock and used
the Cuttlebug to emboss the white cardstock.

chat soon and remember to keep creating...
take care

Limited Edition

Limited Edition| Ivytree Studio

Hi there, oh my hat where is the time going ....  I feel like the rabbit, I am always late for something .... early in February I posted a quick layout which I put together to celebrate my 33rd wedding anniversary.  I used the very aptly named #172 Love range from Ivytree Studio.
My idea today is to show you the stages of a page and how I add all the finer detail.

So, I got to thinking that it was a bit plain for my liking ...... and I made a few changes.  Added some stenciling and a few more layers of flowers and got to this...

Still not enough for my liking so I took it few steps further and added some glitter to the stenciled area by carefully re-positioning the stencil, scrapping on gel medium and then sprinkled glitter. Also added some rub-ons, chippies that I embossed and some journalling on a tag from my stash.

These are sort of the last of my wedding photos but I had a few black and white images so left so I created a second page.

Hope you have enjoyed the process, will leave you with a few close-ups. Note - I added lots  of fussy cut flowers and used liquid pearls to finish them off.

The papers I used for this project

#Christmaschallenge Day 5

A very dear friend got married at the end of October and I was not able to go to the wedding.  When she phoned to say they were honeymooning in my corner of the country, I was delighted and decided to give her an album and made this single page layout for the front of the album as a pressie for her.
Sticking to my challenge I used what was in my stash.

I hope I am inspiring you to make some pressies for the special folk in your life
'til next time
be creative

Travel memory journal - Scrap-a-Doodles DT

I was every so surprised when a Scrap-a-Doodles DT package arrived out of the blue.  It was filled with lovely Graphic 45 Come away with Me collection paper, some Spellbinders, stamps, embossing folder and other deliciousness..... all available at your friendly Scrap-a-Doodles store.

I happend to have a Graphic 45 box from a convention that I had not used, and this seemed the perfect project for it.  I have always dreamed to sipping coffee in Paris so decided to do a Dream Journal theme.

I made a series of booklets to add to the concertina folder.

here are some close-ups of the front cover

here is the complete project

This project is on view at the Scrap-a-Doodles Hobby-X avenue at the Coco-Cola Dome this
week-end.

until next time
keep being creative
take care

Scrapping4Charity 2014

I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Cape Town, where  I had the pleasure of teaching at a scrapbook event that raises monies for various charities.  This year the worthy benefiting charity is Echo who aim to enrich the lives of the Helderberg Basin community.

As teachers our flights and accommodation were paid for so I did not expect anymore and was pleasantly delighted that we were paid a teaching fee and spoilt rotten to boot.

Cathy and her helpers from Scrapcats did an amazing job and the packed weekend consisted of 3 classes on Saturday, a diva scrap & chat in the evening and 3 classes on Sunday.
My class was technique laden, something I had been specifically asked to do.  We had a very tight budget and I was very fortunate to have my page sponsored by Redscreen and I purchased most of my products from Linita Scrap Direct. The ladies received 12 sheets of paper, flowers, butterflies and pink bottle tops all from Scrap Direct. A scroll chippie from Scrap Collections, a variety of ribbons and  mini paper roses, muslin swabs and doilies, and a project album was included in the kit.

The techniques I covered included,
paper flowers,
paper layering,
up-cycling odd flowers with gesso and embossing
stencilling with texture paste
misting embellishments
I did not expect the ladies to finish my class but we did get through most of the techniques.  Many scrappers were placed outside of their comfort zone when they had to tear and scrunch paper but in the end they were happy with their creative accomplishments.
I will, over the course of the next  few weeks load individual tutorials of all the  page elements.

until next time, stay creative

Door stop

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness

That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

Well, I have been on this journey of courage this year and so far it has paid off. The Whacky Market has made the Top 30 in an Ilembe sponsored Entrepreneur competition,  I am learning so much and enjoying it. After attending Nadia's Creative Workshop I was inspired to craft again and using the fabric swatches I have left over from the cushions made this door stop.

I covered a concrete brick with some bubble wrap I had lying around the house, turned it into a parcel and made some rolled fabric flowers. Viola, a door stop to match my cushions.

until next time have a craftilicious day

Torn flowers tutorial

I have struggled to get into the Christmas Spirit this year for the simple reason I can't wrap my head around the fact that though I will be with my sister and her family, my DH and DS,(I have to add we will be on a secluded beach on the Mozambique coast!!) I will not be with my daughter and my Dad.  Now this is the first Christmas in my daughter's life that she is away from home, and I suppose this is a strong sign that she is not my little girl any more.  The other reason is the whirlwind setting up of the shop
which was the most amazing adventure and continues to grow every day but has left me breathless and without much time to think of other things.  The store is decked out in holiday loveliness but my home sadly neglected.  Even my almost 16 year old has said it is not quite the same.

I have been scrapping amongst all the craziness and this LO is inspired by the work of Gabrielle Pollacco
Her Blog is called "Such a pretty mess" and I find her work awe-inspiring.

Here is the link to the page that inspired my torn flowers
page

As you can see I have not added the second photos, will do ... some day soon
